For the first time in his NBA career, Victor Wembanyama faced elimination from the playoffs on Thursday night. He responded.

With the Thunder owning a 3-2 series lead in the Western Conference Finals, and the Spurs needing a win at home to keep their season alive, Wembanyama stepped up on both ends of the floor.

He led the Spurs to the biggest blowout of the series so far, setting up a highly-anticipated Game 7.

Here’s a look at Wembanyama’s Game 6 performance against the Thunder.

Thanks to the Spurs’ hot first-half shooting, his quick start and an eventual 20-0 run in the second half, Wembanyama only had to play 28 minutes in Game 6, his lowest output of the series so far — which certainly bodes well for his ability to stay on the floor for Game 7.

By halftime of Thursday’s Game 6, Wembanyama was on pace for his second 40-point double-double of the series, the Spurs taking a 60-53 advantage into the break. Ultimately, he didn’t need to dominate the last two quarters as the Thunder struggled offensively; most of Wembanyama’s production came before halftime.

If there was one area Wembanyama’s impact was felt immediately, it was from 3-point range. He connected on three shots from deep in the first quarter alone — and as a team in the first half, the Spurs went 11-of-25 from 3-point range.

In the first half alone, Wembanyama surpassed his Game 5 points and shots totals.

Wembanyama came into Thursday fresh off arguably his worst performance of the playoffs so far. In a 13-point loss in Game 5, he managed 20 points on 15 shots, making just four of them. Of his 20 points, 12 came from the free-throw line.

Otherwise, however, Wembanyama has been excellent against Oklahoma City, including his 41-point, 24-rebound Game 1 and 33-point Game 4, both of which resulted in wins.

Now, in Game 6, he’s added another effective performance to knot the series at three wins apiece, avoiding elimination.
