Vote in the latest Marion Star Athlete of the Week Polls

The spring seasons are winding down, but the Marion Star is offering its next-to-last athlete of the week polls for boys and girls.

Fans can vote for their favorite nominees at MarionStar.com and its app through early Sunday morning on May 31. Voters are encouraged to participate as often as allowed.

Here are the nominees:

Marion Star Girls Athlete of the Week for May 24

River Valley softball’s Kylie Eastep hit a walk-off two-run home run to lift the Vikings to their first district title since 2001.

Northmor softball’s Maleah Blevins threw a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks and hit an RBI double during a district final loss to Liberty Union.

North Union softball’s Emma McElroy hit two singles in a district final loss to Johnstown.

Elgin track’s Kadence Gear won the Division IV high jump at 5 feet and was third in the 200 meters to qualify for regionals.

Highland track’s Kynzie Green won the shot put in 38 feet, 8 1/2 inches and the discus in 130-2 at the Division III district.

Marion Star Boys Athlete of the Week for May 24

Cardington baseball’s Josh Goers hit two singles, scored two runs and added three RBIs while also pitching in a tournament win over Wellington.

Highland baseball pitcher Caleb Youngman upped his record to 9-0 after a tournament win over Pleasant.

River Valley baseball’s Dominic Weber went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in a tournament loss to Johnstown.

Pleasant tennis player Alex Yancey finished one match from a state berth during the Division II district singles tournament.

Marion Harding track’s Theo Collins won the pole vault at 11 feet, 4 inches during the Division II district at Hilliard Darby.

Last week’s winners

In last week’s boys poll, North Union’s Greyson Bledsoe pitched a five-hitter with a walk and six strikeouts to beat Bellefontaine, He won the poll with 301 of 808 votes for 37 percent.

Other nominees were baseball players Peyton Zempter of Elgin, Jack Bowdre of Northmor, Gabe Malo of Ridgedale, Pleasant tennis players Alex Yancey, Griffin Gleespen and Luke Russell, Mount Gilead baseball’s Gage Baker and River Valley baseball’s Nolan Bailey.

In last week’s girls poll, Northmor’s Hailey Stuff drove in the game-winning run in the ninth inning to beat Utica in a tournament game. She earned 252 of 762 votes for 33 percent to win it.

Other nominees were softball players Leah Cox of North Union, Madison Hill of Elgin, Livie Brannon of Mount Gilead, Lilianna King of Marion Harding and Celia Hall of Cardington.
