There’s a reason many of the players believed to be on the Golden State Warriors’ offseason trade radar are above-average/prolific three-point shooters.
The Dubs want to play a fast-paced brand of basketball that emphasizes high-level perimeter shooting, which is why it’ll be pivotal for them to add assets who could be instant-impact contributors in their system.
In USA Today’s Marcus D. Smith’s opinion, a Denver Nuggets NBA champion who shot 38.9% from deep this season, is a target the Warriors should keep a close eye on this summer.
“Aaron Gordon is reportedly made available in trade talks and is being shopped,” Smith wrote Friday.
“Gordon and the Warriors haven’t been linked by any reports. It’s just a basketball fit that would benefit both parties. Gordon could give the Warriors, and (Stephen) Curry, a few more years of playoff contention and championship relevance.”
Gordon’s 2025-26 campaign was similar to Curry’s in the sense that both perimeter-oriented assets shot the ball well from beyond the arc (Gordon- 38.9%, Curry-39.3%) but were riddled with injuries all year (Gordon missed 46 games, Curry missed 39 games).
Regarding Gordon’s health concerns, it seems like the Nuggets could use them to help justify their decision to place him on the trade block this offseason. If the Warriors express interest in the former Orlando Magic star, they’ll have to weigh the pros and cons of trading for a player who could prove to be unreliable from an availability standpoint.
When healthy, Gordon is an evolving long-range shooter who’s only a year removed from a season in which he shot a career-best 38.9% from downtown. At the end of the day, the Warriors will be tasked with deciding whether the potential reward outweighs the risk of bringing Gordon on board in the summer.
