Washington football extends offer to powerful 2028 Utah DL

Since Jedd Fisch’s arrival, no position on the Washington Huskies roster has needed more of a shot of life through the high school recruiting ranks than the defensive line.

While Fisch’s coaching staff, led by defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi, has done an impressive job overhauling the position, there’s always work to be done to compete with the top programs in the Big Ten in the trenches. On Wednesday, Kaufusi made his way to Utah to extend an offer to defensive tackle Samuel Chien-Tauvao of West High School

The 6-foot-2, 290-pound prospect is ranked as the nation’s No. 570 recruit and No. 53 defensive lineman in the 2028 class by the Rivals Industry, and holds seven offers with Boise State, Colorado, Penn State, and Washington State also in the mix for his services.

Chien-Tauvao began his career at Brighton High School and proved to be a disruptive interior defender thanks to his combination of size, strength, and athleticism.

At the high school level, he’s able to thrive as a pass rusher thanks to his superior size, an explosive first step, and a motor that never quits, which works out very well for him against high school interior offensive linemen that rarely have the size and strength to stay in front of him. He eats up plenty of space as a run defender with his wide frame and with some time in a college weight room, he could be a key piece for a Power 4 program in the middle of the defensive line.

The Huskies currently hold two commits in the 2027 class along the defensive line in four-star defensive tackle Jon Ioane and three-star defensive lineman Matamatagi Uiagalelei, but it’s never too early to get a jump on the next recruiting class.
