Washington football offers high-end 2028 Texas defensive lineman

During the NCAA’s contact period, Washington Huskies linebackers coach Brian Odom ventured down to Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas. There, he extend an offer to one of the nation’s top pass rushers in the 2028 class, four-star defensive lineman David Dotson.

At 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Dotson is ranked as the nation’s No. 60 overall prospect and No. 7 defensive lineman in the 2028 class by 247Sports, but until recently, he hadn’t garnered the kind of attention a player of his caliber typically does on the recruiting trail.

After Jedd Fisch’s former program, the Arizona Wildcats, extended his first scholarship in February, he’s accrued 30 more offers, with the Huskies joining the ranks of LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas Tech, USC, Wisconsin, and several more in the hunt for his services.

The Huskies have done an impressive job developing an early relationship with some of the nation’s top prospects, and if defensive coordinator Ryan Walters wants to continue upgrading his defensive line, players with Dotson’s skill set are exactly what he and position coach Jason Kaufusi will need to compete up front with some of the best programs in the Big Ten.

On film, Dotson displays the ability to be a strong run defender in both odd and even fronts, showing off his versatility by setting up all over the defensive line. He’s strong at the point of attack, holding his ground while displaying the athleticism to track down plays from behind, while he shows off good explosiveness getting around the corner when rushing the passer.

Washington currently holds three commits along the defensive line in the 2027 class: four-star defensive tackles Jon Ioane and Tevita Nonu, and three-star defensive lineman Matamatagi Uiagalelei, and Kaufusi is looking for several other pieces to round out the unit, but at the same time, he’s working to build those relationships with 2028 prospects like Dotson.
