Werder Bremen: New coaching decision frustrates Super Eagles star

Super Eagles and Werder Bremen striker Victor Okoh Boniface has been left frustrated following a new decision from Coach Daniel Thioune, <a href=”https://www.afrik-foot.com/en-ng/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Afrik Foot reports.

The 25-year-old was scheduled to return to field action by the final week of April, but nothing of such has happened.

Boniface was named on the substitute’s bench in Werder Bremen’s 1-1 draw against VfB Stuttgart last month, and while he hoped things would progress from there, the Leverkusen loanee was left out of the team that lost to FC Augsburg on Saturday.

Werder Bremen: Boniface left frustrated with Thioune’s decision

The one-time Bundesliga winner is desperate to get on the pitch again, but it is highly unlikely he’ll get the chance again this season, with two games left to play, provided Bremen escape the relegation play-offs.

As per <a href=”https://www.kicker.de/boniface-nicht-einverstanden-thiounes-zukunftssignal-mit-musah-1216247/artikel” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Kicker, Boniface aired his displeasure when Werder Bremen coach Daniel Thioune told him he wouldn’t be on the bench in the game against Augsburg on Saturday.

<blockquote class=”wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow”>

“I told him basically, if you are not in the squad, then you may also be angry, then you may be disappointed,” the German tactician told Boniface.

According to the coach, German youngster Salim Musah was in a better physical condition to help the team make pacy bursts late on whenever they needed to stretch the opposition.

As such, Boniface was further down the pecking order, behind Jovan Milosevic, Justin Njinmah, and now, Salim Musah.

Given that the 20-year-old Musah is a product of the Werder academy, the club want to give him more playing time, prioritising his development, while Boniface is fighting to get his career back on track.

<blockquote class=”wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow”>

“We talked about it openly from day one and then also realized that a certain fitness deficit is simply present [for Boniface],” the Werder Bremen coach continued.

<blockquote class=”wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow”>

“Whether it is conducive to the present, I do not know – but we’re making a decision that will be beneficial for the future.

“And there is Boniface that is at least “committed.” Alone: It is also about his own career.

“Our current preferred profile is a striker that is present, and strong player in the box.

“Others have to accept that, even if Victor doesn’t necessarily agree with it,” the 51-year-old concluded.

Werder Bremen are currently six points above the relegation zone, and will be assured of safety if they secure a point in their next two games.

They’ll play against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday, before taking on Borussia Dortmund on the final matchday.
