Florida State baseball stayed alive.
Now the No. 10 national seed Seminoles face St. John’s in the Tallahassee Regional final, needing two wins to secure a spot in a third consecutive super regional appearance.
FSU lost its regional opener to the Red Storm, 6-5, and staved off elimination twice with a 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina and a 7-4 extra-inning win over Northern Illinois.
FSU has won back-to-back Tallahassee Regionals and has never lost in the regional round under head coach Link Jarrett when the program makes the postseason. To win a third, it will take a gutsy performance from a taxed pitching staff and an offense still seemingly finding its swing in the postseason.
The win over Northern Illinois was sparked by shutdown pitching from Brodie Purcell, 3.1 innings of relief with seven strikeouts and 56 pitches, alongside a 3-for-5 night at the plate for Ben Barrett, including a two-run home run in the 10th inning to give FSU insurance.
St. John’s bludgeoned the Huskies, 21-8, in the winners’ bracket game to advance to the Tallahassee Regional final on Monday. The 21 runs were the second-most runs scored in a regional for St. John’s in program history.
FSU has won a regional four times in the program’s history after dropping game one of the weekend. Can the 2026 Seminoles add to that list? Or will St. John’s claim a regional win and book a date with Alabama?
