The Toronto Blue Jays are having a bit of a rough 2026 season, as they’ve gone 25-28 on the year. After a four-game winning streak had the vibes high, the Blue Jays got some tough news during a 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Unfortunately, both Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Dylan Cease left the Sunday game early, sparking injury concerns.
One day later, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, the Blue Jays got some confirmed bad news on one of these players, with Cease being the one to hit the injured list due to an injury. But what exactly happened to Cease?
Blue Jays to lose Dylan Cease to IL placement
“News: Dylan Cease is going to be placed on the 15-day IL (left hamstring) #BlueJays,” Matheson reported Monday afternoon.
The veteran right-hander, who signed a huge $210 million contract over the offseason, is heading to the injured list due to this hamstring injury.
Cease left in the middle of the fifth inning against the Pirates, posting a line of 4.2 innings pitched with four hits and two runs allowed while being handed the loss for Sunday’s game.
But the far bigger loss for the Blue Jays is that Cease, their right-hander who has a 3.05 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 11 starts this season, is headed for the injured list.

After an MRI, Cease is landing on the IL with a left hamstring injury, leaving Toronto to a bleak rotation of Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage, Patrick Corbin, and Spencer Miles.
Cease, Shane Bieber, and Max Scherzer are all on the IL and could come back this season, while Cody Ponce and Jose Berrios are both done for the year.
The injury issues for the Blue Jays’ rotation have been a problem, and this Cease injury is only making things exceptionally worse.
