Jermod McCoy will have the respect of the NFL’s most feared quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, before he ever steps on a professional field.
And no, it’s not entirely because of the lockdown coverage McCoy flashed at Tennessee. McCoy and Mahomes both attended Whitehouse High School in Texas, and the former idolized the QB as a youth chasing his own football dreams.
The connection doesn’t end there. Mahomes’ father, the former MLB pitcher Patrick Mahomes Sr., coached McCoy in baseball, and his son showed McCoy some love during February’s NFL Combine.
McCoy is considered one of the very best cornerback prospects in the draft. He missed the entire 2025 season after tearing his ACL in January, however, so he could potentially slip to the second round, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The Kansas City Chiefs are picking 29th and 40th in the draft, so a McCoy selection is certainly within the realm of possibility. What a reunion that would be.
