When does Alabama High School football season start? See key dates for AHSAA season

The Alabama high school football season is around the corner.

The season can get started on Aug. 20, with practice allowed to start on Aug. 3, unless a team elected not to hold a spring practice session — squads can start fall practice on July 27. The playoffs will start Nov. 6, going each week until the football state championship games in Mobile from Dec. 2-5.

Plenty of defending champions are looking to keep their crown including Thompson (Class 7A), Clay-Chalkville (Class 6A), Moody (Class 5A), Jackson (Class 4A), Mars Hill Bible (Class 3A), Coosa Christian (Class 2A) and Maplesville (Class 1A).

This is the first year of the new public and private split which sees six public school classes and two private school classes. This year also sees the first football championship event to be in Mobile as part of the new rotation and a five day event.

  • August 20: First day of games
  • November 6: First Round of Playoffs
  • November 13: Second Round of Playoffs
  • November 20: Third Round of Playoffs
  • November 27: Fourth Round of Playoffs
  • December 2-5: Super 7 Football Championships

When does the AHSAA football season start

The AHSAA season gets started on Thursday, August 20, but most team will get started on Friday, August 21. Some teams will wait until the following week to get started as well.

The AHSAA football championships are in Mobile at Hancock Whitney Stadium. The games will be from December 2-5.
