LAFC look to take the next step in continental redemption as the MLS giants travel to Mexico for the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal against Toluca on Wednesday.
Steve Cherundolo led LAFC to the final of this competition in 2023, where they won 2-1 at home in the first leg but suffered a 1-0 defeat in the second leg and lost the title on away goals. That was the last time the CONCACAF Champions Cup featured a two-legged final, as it has now moved to a one-off.
They are now staring at the same task yet again in this year’s semifinals, having won 2-1 at home in the first leg against Toluca on a stoppage-time winner from Nkosi Tafari, with Son Heung-Min grabbing the assist on both games.
Mexican clubs have famously dominated this competition. There has been just one MLS winner since 2000, as the Seattle Sounders won in 2022. Since that title, MLS clubs have reached the final in each of the three editions since, but lost all three times.
The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the weekly schedule.
