According to a report from Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann had narrowed down his options for the squad’s final attacking position down to three players — Brentford’s Kevin Schade and the Borussia Dortmund duo of Karim Adeyemi and Maximilian Beier.
In the end, Nagelsmann opted to go with Beier:

Interestingly, FC Köln attacker Said El Mala was also rumored to be in the mix for a spot in the attack, but he was also omitted from the squad as well, while veteran Leroy Sané was included.
Nagelsmann addressed taking Beier over Adeyemi in his press conference as well.
“I’m a big fan of having players who can play in many positions. Karim had a very good first half of the season, but unfortunately things didn’t go so well in the second half. I’ll say a few words, because Karim always has a bit of a negative reputation. The way he reacted was top-notch. He handled it really well. With Maxi, you always imagine scenarios about when you can bring him on as a substitute. He can give us so much,” said Nagelsmann (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Certainly, this information will be a fodder for discussion among fans, who are still waiting for Germany to advance past the group stage since winning the tournament back in 2014.
