As of publishing this, it’s June 1, which turns out to be a very significant date in the NFL world… and maybe for embattled Philadelphia Eagles wideout A.J. Brown.
Trade rumors have been swirling around the wideout for months, with the focus on one team: The New England Patriots. So why would June 1 be such a key date?
Per Pro Football Talk, we have an answer: A trade AFTER June 1 means that they can spread Brown’s dead cap number over 2026 and 2027 instead of taking on all of his dead cap dollars this season.
That all makes a ton of sense. Why trade Brown before then when there’s no rush and the benefit shifts on Monday afternoon?
Did A.J. Brown get traded already?
As of publishing this, no. There are a lot of rumors though.
Is A.J. Brown getting traded to the Patriots?
All the rumors have pointed toward the Patriots, who have a receiver room that includes Romeo Doubs, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams and DeMario Douglas. After Stefon Diggs’ departure, the Patriots are a perfect match for a Brown trade.
But you never know if another team could swoop in with a good offer.
A.J. Brown dead cap money: How much is it?
Per multiple reports, if he gets traded after 4 p.m. Monday, he’d be on the Eagles’ books for $16 million this year and $27 million next year.
