Wisconsin football may be stuck facing preseason No. 1 in Week 1

Much to the dismay of Wisconsin Badgers fans, they may be taking on the No. 1-ranked team come September 6.

Lambeau Field hasn’t experienced a game quite like this since LSU came to town all those years ago. Now, Football Scoop’s Zach Barnett is making a case for the Badgers‘ first opponent to be the preseason No. 1.

“In my mind, though, there’s no question about who should start this upcoming season at No. 1. It’s Notre Dame,” he said.

Barnett continued, “CBS says Notre Dame returns 66 percent of its snaps, including 73 percent on defense. Bill Connelly’s SP+, which takes transfers into account, places Notre Dame at 72 percent, including 77 percent on defense.”

The Fighting Irish‘s offense was highlighted as Barnett made it clear he’s a big fan of quarterback CJ Carr, running back Aneyas Williams, and wide receiver Jaden Greathouse.

Even though Notre Dame missed the playoffs last season, they were heavily considered to make the field. This year, their schedule is just as easy, but they have to make sure they get started on the right foot. Remember, Wisconsin shocked the world and took down the No. 5 Tigers, 16-14, in front of over 77,000 fans on September 3, 2016.
