WNBA fans are not pleased with Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. On Saturday, May 9, Clark was seen accompanying Morgan Wallen onstage during his concert at Lucas Oil Stadium. The basketball player’s appearance stirred up controversy not only because her team lost its home opener to Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings, but also because of Wallen’s past controversies, including screaming a racial slur during a drunken rant.

Clark, 24, made a surprise appearance alongside Wallen on Saturday during his second Indianapolis stop on his “The Problem Tour.”

Videos of the moment were shared online, and the audience roared with excitement as Clark appeared on screen alongside the “Cowgirls” singer.

Throughout the run of his tour, Wallen has regularly started the show with big-name celebs, including Drake, Tom Brady, and Tyrese Haliburton.

Clark’s headline-making moment came just hours after the University of Iowa alum lost to the Dallas Wings by three points in the Fever’s home opener at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. (Clark had a chance to tie the game with seven seconds remaining; however, she missed her three-point attempt.)

WNBA Fans Unleash On Clark After Seeing Her Walk Out With Morgan Wallen

The video sparked much controversy online, as WNBA fans voiced their frustration about the moment.

“If Angel Reese was doing this after choking in a game, Barstool Sports would be crying about it,” an X user wrote. “Sounds about white.”

Several other users took issue with Clark’s appearance because of Wallen’s past controversies, one of which includes him screaming the N-word on video.

“Her teammates must be pumped that she is endorsing the ‘my friends and I say the N word as a joke’ guy,” another user wrote.

“White racist walking out with another white racist,” someone else posted. “This news or just another normal weekend?”

On Reddit, the response was much of the same, as one user wrote, “Did she not realize the public believes him to be a racist? Like, I’m confused how this even occurred or why it was allowed at all.”

A second Reddit user added, “Massively, incredibly tone deaf at the BEST! Like, we as Fever fans are never beating the allegations.”

The intense backlash Clark is receiving stems from Wallen’s past antics. For example, in February 2021, the singer went viral after a video of him screaming the N-word was shared online.

The singer apologized for his actions in a statement to E! News, admitting that he was “embarrassed” about the situation.

“I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better,” he added.

In 2024, Wallen was back in the spotlight after he was arrested at a Nashville bar for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

According to local police, they were standing outside of a bar around 11:00 PM when they claimed to have witnessed Wallen throw a chair from above into the street.

A witness allegedly told law enforcement that they saw the singer throw the object before “laughing” about it afterward.

Wallen addressed the incident online after, revealing he had been in communication with Nashville police officers. “I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility,” he wrote.

Later that year, Wallen pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges stemming from the incident and was later sentenced to two years of probation and seven days of incarceration at a DUI education facility.

Clark isn’t the only public figure to face criticism after working with Wallen. According to a previous report from The Blast, pop star Tate McRae also took heat from fans after collaborating with him on a song called “What I Want.”

McRae explained that she grew up listening to country music and didn’t think further about how their working together could impact people.

“It was just about the song for me. I didn’t realize how much a song would be connected to all the other factors, and it really shocked me,” she said.

Despite the pushback, the “Greedy” singer implied that she would do it all over again if she could.

“I don’t think you should regret anything in life, because it gives you so much clarity,” she said. “I think controversy and criticism is a way of learning and figuring out what you want to move forward with, and how that shapes you as a person. I think it’s all important.”
