Holly Winterburn made her way from England to Oregon and then signed as an undrafted free agent in 2025 with the Atlanta Dream, with the guard hoping to get some playing time. But she missed the entire season with an injury and her playing rights stayed with Dream.
Fast-forward to 2026. She was signed once again by the Dream as the season started… but then she was cut. And on Tuesday, she spoke out about how it went down with an Instagram Story.
“I thought my welcome to the W moment would happen on the court, not as I’m getting on the bus for my first ever game,” she wrote. “But that’s the reality of this business [and] I will always be grateful for the opportunity Atlanta gave me.”
“I’m built for this,” she added. “Thank you to everyone who has checked in on me [and] sent love. Everything happens for a reason and I’m so excited for what’s next.”

No word on how that exactly happened — was she literally stepping on the bus and management said “Not so fast”?
Maybe we’ll hear more about this soon.
