Wolfsburg, Aston Villa, Milan, Galatasaray at alert as Super Eagles star rejects new contract

Raphael Onyedika could be on his way out of Belgian giants Club Brugge after the Super Eagles midfielder turned down a new contract offer from the champions, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 24-year-old, who joined Club Brugge from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2022, has entered a crucial phase of his career. With just over a year left on his current deal, the club had hoped to tie him down to fresh terms. However, despite months of talks and repeated efforts from the Brugge hierarchy, Onyedika has made it clear he is ready for a new challenge elsewhere.

According to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad via DailyPost, negotiations between both parties have stalled completely. The defensive midfielder is now focused on securing a move at the end of the season, a decision that has immediately put several European clubs on alert.

Club Brugge’s position is delicate. Having already rejected offers in the January transfer window, including strong interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray, they now risk losing the player for a reduced fee if they fail to sell him this summer. Reports suggest the Belgian side could demand between €20 million and €25 million for the Nigeria international.

Onyedika has been a key figure in Brugge’s midfield, particularly noted for his ball-winning ability, tactical discipline, and composure in high-pressure matches, including in European competitions. However, recent reports indicate that the ongoing contract situation may have affected his role slightly, with the midfielder rotated in some fixtures as uncertainty grows around his future.

Onyedika: Transfer race heats up for Super Eagles star

With contract talks effectively over, a number of clubs across Europe’s top leagues are closely monitoring the situation around the Super Eagles midfielder.

German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are among the most serious contenders, having seen a €20 million bid rejected during the winter window. They are expected to return with a renewed offer once the transfer market reopens.

In England, Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and West Ham United have also shown strong interest. Villa, under Unai Emery, are believed to be keen on reinforcing their midfield with a player of Onyedika’s profile, especially after his impressive displays in continental competitions and for Nigeria.

Italian giants AC Milan remain long-term admirers, having previously tabled an offer in the region of €18 million. The Serie A side continue to track his situation closely, viewing him as a potential long-term addition to their midfield core.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray’s interest has not faded. The Turkish champions had earlier agreed personal terms with the player and remain determined to bring him to Istanbul after failing in their previous attempts. Galatasaray will hope star forward Victor Osimhen could help lure Onyedika to Istanbul.

Interestingly, in the event that Onyedika, valued at €23 million, is sold by Club Brugge KV for a profit in excess of €9.5 million FC Midtjylland shall be entitled to 20% of such profit.
