Young Dolphins defensive lineman is changing his jersey number in 2026

While the Miami Dolphins have made several changes to their roster this offseason, one defender that’s stuck around is making a small change of his own before the 2026 season.

According to the team website, Dolphins defensive lineman Kenneth Grant is changing his jersey number. After wearing No. 90 as a rookie, the 2025 first-round pick is going back to No. 78, which he wore at Michigan.

Grant had a ton of success in No. 78 with the Wolverines, earning All-Big Ten honors twice and All-American honors once. He also won a national championship in just his second collegiate season.

His rookie year was a bit underwhelming, as he played 52% of the team’s defensive snaps in 17 games and recorded 33 tackles, five quarterback hits, two sacks and a pass defensed. He’s hoping that the switch back will help him recapture the play that made him a first-round pick.

Miami’s best No. 78 in team history, Richmond Webb, wore it from 11 seasons from 1990-2000, while making seven Pro Bowls to start his career. James Daniels wore it last year for Week 1 before suffering a season-ending injury just three snaps into the game.
