YouTube Gold: Reliving Laettner’s Iconic Shot

When you talk about the NCAA tournament and you say The Shot, everyone knows what you mean: you mean the dramatic overtime-buzzer beater that Christian Laettner hit to beat Kentucky in 1992.

Even now, it’s a standard part of March Madness. Duke fans obviously see it with pride and warm fuzzies, but can you imagine being a Kentucky fan and having to see that for the past 34 years? That would be just brutal.

For most of the normal world, though, it was a brilliant play: the long, arcing pass from Grant Hill, the catch by the double-teamed Laettner, and the feather-soft shot that fell through as time ran out. Toss in Thomas Hill’s famous look of disbelief, and it was a classic moment.

Allstate made a great spot that features a driveway reenactment. The “Duke” players celebrate, and suddenly, out of nowhere, Mike Krzyzewski rushes out to join the party. Then he just runs off like it was completely normal.

It is an underrated but cool spot.
