Fulleffort has scratched from Kentucky Derby 152, trainer Brad Cox told The Courier Journal on Thursday morning.
Cox said Fulleffort was jogging Thursday morning and was “off” in his left hind leg. An X-ray revealed a bone chip.
Cox said Fulleffort will need a “minor surgery” and won’t be able to compete in any of the Triple Crown races this year.
“Easy decision to withdraw him from the Derby,” Cox said. “We’ll get that cleaned up and hopefully have a fresh horse for next fall. … It’s never good timing; the main thing is he’s fine.”
With Fulleffort’s defection, Ocelli enters the field.
