Joseph Oosting becomes the second head coach sacked by Antwerp this season

Antwerp have announced that head coach Joseph Oosting has been sacked following a 3-0 defeat to OH Leuven. Oosting, who took over from Stef Wils back in November now becomes the second head coach sacked by Antwerp this season. Oosting is the third permanent head coach to come and go at Antwerp since Mark van Bommel left back in 2024, with Antwerp still looking for a replacement for the former Dutch international.

Replicating the success van Bommel delivered has not been easy, especially with Antwerp facing much greater financial constraints since he departed. Jonas De Roeck and Stef Wils both struggled, although the former had, in hindsight at least and even for some at the time, done a much better job than perhaps he was given credit for. Oosting managed to steer the side away from any real trouble, but despite a brief moment in the play-offs, the side have been off the pace in the race for the final European ticket.

Oosting departs the club having averaged 1.2 points per game with a 36% win rate. He delivered just eight wins for Antwerp, with three draws and 11 defeats.

Former midfielder Faris Haroun will now take over, with Antwerp likely to wait until the summer to appoint a permanent head coach. Whoever comes in will not have European football to contend with, but they also won’t have the financial windfall that European competition also brings.
