Rise and shine! The Oregon Ducks are gearing up for some breakfast baseball in Omaha against their rival, the Washington Huskies.
The Ducks and Huskies were originally scheduled to play on Friday night, but several rain delays throughout the day postponed the game. Now, the winner will advance to the Big Ten Tournament semifinal against No. 2 Nebraska and play a doubleheader today.
Washington has earned two upset victories in the conference tournament as the No. 11 seed. On Tuesday, Washington rallied and outlasted No. 6 Ohio State for an 8-6 victory. The Huskies backed up the strong showing by dismantling No. 7 Michigan on Wednesday night, earning a 7-1 victory.
Oregon and Washington are not too far removed from their series in Seattle at the beginning of the month. The Ducks took the series on the road, but the Huskies put forth a good effort.
The Huskies led Oregon early in the first two games but blew it in the later innings as the Ducks got to the bullpen. In the series finale, Washington scored seven runs on the Ducks in the sixth inning and held off another late rally by Oregon to win 9-5 and avoid a sweep on their home field.
Cal Scolari will get the start for the Ducks today. He turned in a big start for the Ducks last week in a 2-1 loss against USC, throwing five innings and allowing just one run while striking out five. With a doubleheader looming as a possibility, the Ducks are comfortable saving Will Sanford and letting Scolari tackle the Huskies. He tossed a scoreless inning in relief and notched three strikeouts against Washington earlier this season.
