This is what the Los Angeles Angels do.

Normally you’d want that line written about something more impressive, but that’s not how it works. The Angels simply dive headfirst into the scrap heap to see what they can find.

You don’t have to look far back in the past for examples, either.

Alek Manoah was a nightmare by the end of his time with the Toronto Blue Jays, but the Angels brought him aboard this offseason as a potential solution in their starting rotation.

It ended about as well as could’ve been expected, a nine-run outing from Manoah accelerating his removal from the roster.

So how do you replace Manoah? Well, one move the Angels have made since happened this weekend — they signed Taijuan Walker.

Walker had been dumped by the Philadelphia Phillies earlier this season. He’s a long way removed from his days as a promising young pitcher with the Seattle Mariners.

Most likely, Walker is washed up, too. But again, this is what the Angels do:

This is the franchise that wasted Mike Trout’s entire prime.

This is the franchise that had Trout together with Shohei Ohtani and still couldn’t win.

And while there can be merit to revitalizing the career of someone who seemed broken, the Angels haven’t exactly mastered that art.

They’re happy to keep trying, apparently. It just doesn’t seem that likely to work out.
