The Buffalo Bills have signed veteran inside linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles to a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday. Terms of the contract were not immediately disclosed.

Flannigan-Fowles, 29, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. He was a safety in college, playing for the Arizona Wildcats from 2015-2018. During his college career, Flannigan-Fowles totaled 243 tackles and six interceptions.

After signing with the 49ers, he was a member of the practice squad for a year before making the team and playing mostly special teams in 2020. Flannigan-Fowles was listed as a defensive back for the 2020 and 2021 seasons in San Francisco before converting to linebacker ahead of the 2022 season. He remained with the 49ers through the 2024 NFL season, and he totaled 96 tackles, three pass breakups, one interception, and one sack across 73 games.

Last season, Flannigan-Fowles played with the New York Giants. In 10 games and three starts, he had 33 tackles, one pass breakup, one sack, and three tackles for loss. He played a career-high 36% of the defensive snaps for the Giants, and a career-low 40% of the special teams snaps. During his time with the 49ers, he played between 59% and 75% of San Francisco’s special teams snaps.

To make room on the 91-man roster for Flannigan-Fowles, the Bills released undrafted rookie wide receiver Max Tomczak.
