Captain Bruno Guimarães named Newcastle United’s 2025/26 Player of the Year

The club captain wins the award for the first time as reward for a fine campaign in midfield. With nine goals, he is United’s top goalscorer in the Premier League – and joint-fourth in all competitions.

His eight assists are also top of the charts at St. James’ Park – one ahead of midfield partner Sandro Tonali. This is already his best season in terms of goals in his career – and he has equalled his record tally of 17 goal involvements from 2023/24.

That feat is more impressive given that he missed 15 games through injury, and his goals have been mightily important ones, too. After breaking the deadlock in the win over Nottingham Forest in October, he scored the 90th-minute winner against Fulham late that month.

He opened the scoring in the draw with Tottenham in December and was on target directly from a corner a few days later as we beat Burnley at SJP. He netted in the return fixture at Turf Moor in December, before starting 2026 with back-to-back goals in wins over Crystal Palace and Leeds.

Recently back from injury, the Brazilian has been a consistent threat from midfield, and follows Dan Burn, Anthony Gordon, Kieran Trippier and Joelinton in winning the accolade.

He will hope to take that form to the World Cup this summer with Brazil, with whom he has 41 caps to date.

Everyone at Newcastle United congratulates Bruno on a fine season and deserved award!
