Dayton basketball: Flyers add American Conference team to schedule

Jun. 2—The Dayton Flyers men’s basketball team will play South Florida on Dec. 12 at UD Arena, according to a report on Tuesday, June 2, by Jon Rothstein, of CBS Sports.

Dayton then will play at South Florida in Tampa in the 2027-28 season, Rothstein reported.

The news came on the same day Dayton announced it will play the Cincinnati Bearcats on Nov. 14 at UD Arena.

South Florida finished 25-9 last season and played in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012. Coach Bryan Hogdson left after the season for a job at Providence. South Florida hired former Xavier, Louisville and Charleston coach Chris Mack to take his place.

Mack last coached against Dayton when Xavier beat Dayton in the Advocare Invitational championship in 2015.

Dayton and South Florida have played six times, most recently in 1997 when Dayton beat the Bulls in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico. The other five games took place between 1974 and 1984. Dayton leads the series 4-2.

Along with Cincinnati and South Florida, Dayton’s other known non-conference games are against Liberty, Florida State and Memphis.
