The Miami Dolphins made 13 selections during the 2026 NFL Draft as general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan looks to completely overhaul the roster this offseason.
With needs all across the roster, the Dolphins wound up adding two tight ends, one in Will Kacmerek in Round 3, and then in the 5th round, they took Mississippi State tight end, Saore Traore.
But, somehow, the Dolphins weren’t the only team to draft Traore this week. As the CFL Global Draft Tracker notes, the Dolphins’ new tight end was also selected in Round 2 of the CFL Draft by the BC Lions.

In Round 2 of the 2026 Global Draft for the CFL, the BC Lions selected Traore with the seventh selection. That’s now twice in the last week that Traore has been drafted, as he’s been selected by the Dolphins and now the BC Lions.
This is a very fascinating scenario playing out for the Dolphins, the BC Lions, and especially for Traore.
Unlike almost every other player that was drafted (besides Bryce Boettcher, who was drafted by the Houston Astros in MLB’s draft), Traore has two options he could choose from.
Despite the Dolphins spending the No. 180 pick on him, Traore can decide that he doesn’t want to play for the Dolphins and pick the BC Lions roster instead. But, does he have to choose?

According to CFL rules, a player cannot be under contract by both a CFL team and an NFL team. In this scenario, Traore can only sign with one of the Dolphins or BC Lions.
While Traore might have a tough time making the initial 53-man roster due to the Dolphins’ tight end depth, especially with Kacmerek being taken No. 87 overall, Traore can still make the practice squad and factor in as a decent depth option for Miami.
This situation will be one to keep an eye on, as Traore has now been drafted twice in the last week, once by the Dolphins and the other time by the BC Lions in the CFL.
He will need to choose between the Dolphins and the BC Lions, with the most likely outcome being Traore signing on with the Dolphins on his four-year rookie contract.
