Elsa Morrison hits three-run home run in College World Series

No. 7 national seed Tennessee (48-10) defeated No. 2 national seed Texas (47-12), 6-3, Thursday in the College World Series at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Lady Vols led, 3-0, in the second inning after freshman catcher Elsa Morrison hit a three-run home run. Tennessee extended its advantage after Taelyn Holley scored on a wild pitch.

The Longhorns scored their first run after Victoria Hunter reached on a fielder’s choice and Tennessee committed an error allowing Ashton Maloney to score.

Gabby Leach hit a RBI single in the sixth inning for Tennessee.

Leighann Goode hit a two-run home run for Texas’ final runs of the contest.

Morrison went 2-for-3. She totaled one home run, one double, three RBIs and one run. Leach went 1-for-3 and recorded one RBI, while Emma Clarke went 1-for-3 and recorded one RBI.

Sage Mardjetko (15-2) started and pitched four scoreless innings for the Lady Vols. She allowed one hit and two walks. Mardjetko recorded one strikeout, while totaling 50 pitches, including 33 strikes.

Karlyn Pickens pitched three innings in relief for Tennessee. She allowed three runs (two earned) and four hits. Pickens earned her seventh save of the season. She recorded two strikeouts, while totaling 44 pitches (28 strikes).

Tennessee will next play Saturday versus Texas Tech. First pitch between the Lady Vols and Red Raiders is slated for 3 p.m. EDT.
