Ex-ASU football star Cam Skattebo’s ambitious predictions for NFL season

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo turned heads with his performance in his rookie season in 2025 before breaking his right fibula and dislocating his right ankle.

Before the 2026 NFL season, the former Arizona State star is turning heads with a prediction for his season.

“I do not consider that successful for me,” Skattebo said, via the Associated Press. “I had 400 yards on 100 carries. When I play 17-plus games this year, it’s going to be 300 carries for over 2,000 yards.”

Skattebo rushed for 410 yards on 101 carries last season, to be exact. He had five rushing touchdowns and averaged 4.1 yards per carry.

He would have to average more than 6.6 yards per carry on 300 carries to get 2,000 rushing yards in the upcoming season.

Only nine running backs have rushed for 2,000 yards in a season.

No Giants player has ever achieved that mark, with Tiki Barber holding the record with 1,860 yards rushing in 2005.

“Obviously, there’s ups and downs in the injury process and coming back and rehabbing, but the mental battle has been the hardest part: making sure that I trust it fully,” Skattebo said of his rehab, according to the Associated Press. “I’m a little ways out. Not too far, but I’ll be ready to go. Week 1, I’ll be ready to go.”
