The good news about the 2026 Indiana Fever is that Caitlin Clark and company are going to entertain.
The bad news — potentially — about the 2026 Indiana Fever is they might be fairly easy to score against.
Concerns about the Fever’s defense came to the fore after Indiana suffered a season-opening 107-104 home loss to Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings on Saturday.

Granted, Saturday marked Clark’s first WNBA game in 10 months. And she ended up playing fairly well; Clark finished the game with 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
However, missed seven of her nine 3-point attempts and put out some brutal defensive tape for which fans are lighting her up online.

The footage shows Clark rotating over late as the Wings hunt matchups with her, struggling to keep up as guards blaze past her and even failing to close out on shooters.
Wings players defended by Clark scored 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
“Is she the worst defender in the league? She’s at the least the worst of the star players,” asked one X user.
“So does everyone finally realize how overrated she has been this entire time,” another wondered.
“Her body language after each bucket, then she looks to see if there’s someone to blame. She knows,” another claimed.
“This (is) year 3, any player (who is) serious about winning is at least respectable on defense by then,” another said.
Clark might never be more than an average defender. But even “average” would be a big help to the Fever.
