For the first time in four years, Florida softball needed to win two games in a row to reach the Women’s College World Series.
The Gators reached step one Saturday with a 10-2 blowout win over Texas Tech to even the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional.
It did so by looking like the hungrier, more fiery team, something that Red Raider head coach Gerry Glasco noticed.
“They wanted it worse. They played with more fire. They ran off the field quicker,” Glasco said. “In all aspects of the game, they played harder.”
Sunday, that will likely change as both teams are playing for their season.
The Red Raiders can turn to a combination of NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry. Both have struggled by their standards vs the mighty UF offense.
Terry allowed two earned runs in five innings, and Canady’s given eight in 5⅔ innings – the most she’s allowed in a two-game stretch of her storied career.
Meanwhile, it’ll be the Keagan Rothrock show once again for the orange and blue. Rothrock exited Friday’s 10-8 loss after four innings due to fatigue in the extreme heat. After receiving two bags of IV, the junior recovered and pitched a complete game with five hits and two runs allowed.
It’ll be a heavyweight showdown at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, with talent and storylines abundant on both sides.
