FSU baseball beats North Florida

The No. 8 Florida State Seminoles beat the North Florida Ospreys ____ on Tuesday at Harmon Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. They improved to 29-11 overall and 11-6 ACC play with the win, their fifth in a row.

The Seminoles opened the scoring in the third inning when Carter McCulley hit a one-out single and scored on a double by Brayden Dowd. They took a 2-0 lead in the fifth when Gabe Fraser reached on an infield single, and Drew Fisher followed it with a double.

Eli Putnam drove in Fraser with a groundout before FSU loaded the bases with a walk and an infield single. They were unable to capitalize as North Florida stranded all three base runners. They did not make the same mistake in the sixth, with Putnam driving in Brody DeLamielleure with a sac-fly and putting them up 3-0.

North Florida cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth after Jake Echols hit the leadoff batter and gave up a double, putting two in scoring positions with no outs. A sacrifice fly drove in one run, but Chase Williams threw the runner out trying to take third before Cade O’Leary ended the threat with a strikeout.

Putnam once again came through in the seventh inning, scoring DeLamielleure with a two-out double. Putnam finished the game with one hit and three RBI.

Kevin Mebil got the first outs in the bottom of the ninth before giving up a double, and FSU turned to Chris Knier to close out the game. He did just that with a strikeout to earn the save.

The Seminoles will return to action on Friday when they head to California to play the Stanford Cardinal in a three-game series. The game is set to start at 9 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.
