The San Antonio Spurs are looking to make a statement during the 2026 postseason.

The well-respected Western Conference franchise missed the playoffs from 2020-25, but things appear different this time around. The Spurs are already off to an unblemished 1-0 start, defeating the Portland Trail Blazers 11-98 on Sunday to kick off the second leg of the season.

San Antonio is in the midst of completing first-round game No. 2, but will have to do so without its star center, Victor Wembanyama.

“Victor Wembanyama (concussion protocol) is out for the remainder of Game 2 between the San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported Tuesday.

Wembanyama suffered the injury with just under nine minutes to play in the second quarter. After utilizing a shot fake at the top of the key to get Jrue Holiday off balance, Wembanyama exploded to the paint with the intention of finishing well above the rim.

Unfortunately, the well-rounded 7-foot-4 center collided with Holiday after a forceful right-to-left spin move and landed hard on the deck. When Wembanyama failed to get back on his feet immediately, it was clear something wasn’t right with the former Rookie of the Year.

While Wembanyama won’t return to tonight’s contest against the Trail Blazers, it’s safe to assume they’re optimistic he’ll be good to go moving forward.
