The Boston Red Sox are still trying to compete for a playoff spot this season and could look to add some more pop to the lineup.

Boston has gotten off to a slow start this season, but the entire American League has struggled, so the Red Sox are still in playoff contention. With that, MLB insider Buster Olney of ESPN reported on Sunday that Boston is looking to add a right-handed bat ahead of the trade deadline.

“The Red Sox are in the market for a right-handed hitter with thump,” Only wrote on X.

Who exactly Boston would be looking for is uncertain, but the insider believes Craig Breslow and the Red Sox’s front office are looking for a power bat.

Boston’s lineup is missing a power hitter, especially with Roman Anthony and Trevor Story both on the injured list.

As a team, Boston is hitting just .239, which ranks 15th in the majors, while the team only has 36 home runs, which is 29th in the MLB. So, adding another power bat would do wonders for Boston’s lineup and make them that much better.

The Red Sox are off to a 22-29 start and will look to avoid a series sweep by the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon.
