May 28 (UPI) — Rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, underwent hernia surgery, coach Aaron Glenn announced Thursday.

Glenn said Sadiq played through the injury last season at Oregon. Glenn said her underwent in a minor procedure, but is expected to be ready to return at some point during training camp. The Jets are set to open training camp in late July.

“Sadiq had a minor procedure, so he won’t be out at practice today,” Glenn told reporters. “He had a minor procedure. Something we knew about going [through] his last year of college. He dealt with it in rookie minicamp.

“We wanted to make sure we got it done right after rookie minicamp so he’ll be ready to go during training camp.”

Sadiq was the Jets’ second pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. They picked up former Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey with the No. 2 overall pick and former Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with the No. 30 overall pick.

Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert, Jelani Woods and Chase Curtis are the other tight ends on the Jets roster. Taylor totaled a team-high 44 catches for the Jets last season. He totaled 369 yards and a score off those catches.

Glenn said Thursday that kicker Cade York is dealing with a groin injury and will not practice this week, but is expected to return next week. The Jets announced Thursday that they signed kicker Yoonghoe Koo.

The Jets started organized team activities Wednesday. They held their second day Thursday and will hold additional sessions June 1, 2, 4 and 8 to 11. Jets mandatory minicamp will be held June 16 to 18.

The Jets will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their preseason opener Aug. 14 in East Rutherford, N.J. They will take on the Tennessee Titans in their regular-season opener Sept. 13 in Nashville.
