As the offseason has progressed forward, it’s become abundantly clear that the New York Jets were not going to bring back veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor. That became official on Monday afternoon. Having waited for the right opportunity, multiple reports confirmed Taylor is signing with the Green Bay Packers.

Taylor appeared in six games for the Jets throughout 2025. The former sixth-round pick out of Virginia Tech completed 59.7% of his passing attempts, throwing for 779 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions. The Packers were in the market for a new No. 2 quarterback behind Jordan Love after losing Malik Willis to the Miami Dolphins in free agency.
The Jets traded for veteran quarterback Geno Smith earlier this offseason to be their 2026 starter. Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn then selected former Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik during the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. That probably closed the door on any remaining hope for a Taylor-Jets reunion. Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe are also on the offseason roster.
Taylor was the ultimate professional for the Jets throughout 2024-25. The Jets are simply moving in a different direction with Smith and Klubnik at quarterback. We wish Taylor the best of luck in Green Bay.
