As the Texas Longhorns look to improve their 2028 class, they have entered the recruiting battle for one of the top recruits still on the table in Ian Thomas. The talented running back has drawn interest from schools seeking an explosive offensive player. While the Longhorns offense would get a boost with Thomas in the mix, they are not the only program interested in his services.
During the recruiting process, Thomas has received offers from Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Houston, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and UTSA. With no commitment date set, that list could continue to grow over the next few weeks. Thomas still has some room to grow, but he has been an impact piece every time he has touched the ball for Tomball High.

In the first two seasons of his high school career, Thomas recorded 1,749 rushing yards on 243 attempts. He also found the end zone 22 times on the ground while hauling in 14 receptions for 217 yards. Due to his play, the Longhorns recruiting target has seen his stock rise.
Currently, Thomas is ranked as the best running back in his class by 247Sports. They also rank Thomas as the fifth-best player from Texas and the 39th-best player in the nation. That is partly why some of the top programs in the nation have made the elite prospect a top target on their lists.

Although the Longhorns have not secured a commitment from a player in the 2028 class, they have been busy connecting with prospects. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have made offers to four-star recruits such as Kevin Hartsfield, Micah Rhodes, Brysen Wright, Tytan McNeal, and Jamarios Canton. Any of those players would be a welcome addition.
Over the next few months, Thomas will be a player to keep an eye on as he weighs his options. While a lot can change in that time, Texas has made its interest clear early on.
