Joe Burrow contract restructure latest with Bengals is interesting

One of the most popular theories around the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason was that a Joe Burrow contract restructure would be an inevitable thing.

And that could very well happen at any point now and well into the summer.

But so far? No dice.

In fact, according to WLWT’s Charlie Clifford, the subject hasn’t even come up.

Clifford wrote the following: “A source tells WLWT there continues to be no dialogue between the team and Joe Burrow’s representatives regarding a restructure of the franchise quarterback’s contract.”

According to Over The Cap, the Bengals only have about $7 million in free cap space. Hardly a concern given all the levers the team could pull to create more, but still notable.

One of those levers, though, is the Burrow restructure, which would free up roughly $19 million in space.

For now, the Bengals have done a great job of navigating the Dexter Lawrence trade and big free-agent spending without pulling these levers. Most modern teams with top-dollar quarterbacks eventually do, but the Bengals clearly aren’t in a rush.
