Being a free agent in Major League Baseball is often viewed as the best thing any player can deal with. They have full control over their future, get to pick where they want to play, and everything in between.
On the flip side, there have often been times, which we see a ton around Major League Baseball, when players initially struggle with a team, getting used to a new city, or anything in between.
That’s something that seems to be affecting New York Mets infielder Bo Bichette, who played for the Toronto Blue Jays for every year of his career prior to this season.
Bichette had an opportunity to make his decisions in free agency and did just that. However, he’s been struggling a ton, and his latest comments make it seem like he wasn’t ready for what it takes to play in New York City.
“There are a lot of things I didn’t anticipate,” Bichette said, per Ken Rosenthal. “Just dealing with everything. New teammates. New organization. Staff. New fan base. Just everything, I think.”
I’m hesitant to say that Bichette wasn’t ready to play in New York City, as playing in Toronto is difficult as well. However, playing in New York is a lot different from playing in Toronto, at the end of the day, even if it’s for the Mets rather than the New York Yankees.
There’s a level of fan frustration that just doesn’t get seen in most other cities, and it’s obviously impacting Bichette in one way or another.
