Charlotte Hornets center Moussa Diabate addressed the media Wednesday for the first time since winning the NBA’s Hustle Award. The fourth-year center spoke about his effort, tenacity and willingness to do dirty work.
When asked about what it meant to be honored with the award, Diabate responded, saying, “It’s a statement to my work. I think that’s what it comes down to. And I’m just happy. I think it’s something that makes you realize how much the little things matter.”
Bursting onto the scene as a starter, Diabate didn’t waste his opportunity, constantly diving for loose balls and fighting for second chance opportunities. Diabate’s biggest strength was his ability to grab offensive rebounds, averaging 3.7 per game, which was among the league’s best. This was especially impressive considering Diabate (listed at 6’10”) gives up a few inches to many of the league’s starting centers.
Looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, if Diabate were to repeat as the winner of the NBA’s Hustle Award, he’d become only the second player in the award’s history to win it multiple times (Marcus Smart x3).
