No. 1 doubles advance for B-R

JASPER – The Barr-Reeve Lady Vikings tennis team suffered a tough loss on Tuesday in the Jasper Regional against a very good South Knox team (20-0), 4-1. The loss ended the season as a team, but bright spot is the No. 1 Viking doubles team will continue to advance in the tourney.

The match was moved indoors due to weather at the Ed Yarborough Tennis Center at Jasper, and played after the Lady Wildcats, 5-0 win over Sullivan, as Jasper and South Knox now meet in the finals.

Anniston Kelso and Shay Knepp were the lone winners at No. 1 doubles turning a regular season loss into a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win. They will now play Washington’s Ella Williams and Brooklyn Whitehead, as the individual tourney continues.

At No. 1, Spanish exchange student Belen Navarro and No. 3 Brynnlee Rollins ended their seasons with super close 3-set losses. No. 2 doubles of Ava Graber and Anna Sward also lost in a hard fought 3-set match and Brylee Fuhrman wrapped up a very successful career at No.2 singles, battling hard in a 6-4, 6-3 loss.

“Overall, a very successful season for the Lady Vikings winning their fourth straight sectional title and setting a standard future teams can strive to meet. I couldn’t be more proud of their effort and improvement,” said B-R head coach Tim Swartzentruber.
