No. 4 Georgia baseball sets program record in win over No. 6 Auburn

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Auburn Tigers in a massive top-10 contest on Thursday evening. Georgia was able to secure the 2-1 victory despite struggling offensively, as Daniel Jackson and Ryan Winn each hit a massive solo home run to cement the win.

The Dawgs’ pitching staff was excellent throughout the entirety of Thursday evening’s contest. Joey Volchko surrendered just one earned run across five innings pitched, while also giving up three total hits and a walk. Volchko recorded six strikeouts in the victory as well, and the talented pitcher’s ERA has improved to 4.41 on the year.

Matt Scott provided four solid innings of work out of the bullpen following Volchko’s appearance. Scott could easily find himself back on the mound once again this weekend against Auburn, as the reliever has been a very reliable option for the Dawgs across 2026. Scott was credited with six total strikeouts in addition to Volchko, and the talented duo has thrived throughout May as Georgia went on to win the SEC regular season title last weekend.

No. 4 Georgia (42-11, 22-6 SEC) was able to take Game 1 one the road against No. 6 Auburn (35-17, 16-12 SEC) despite an underwhelming performance at the plate. One more win over the Tigers this weekend would secure arguably the biggest series victory of the season for the Bulldogs, as Georgia continues to dominate prior to the SEC Tournament. The Georgia-Auburn series is the SEC finale for both teams.
