Oklahoma Sooners cornerback Dakoda Fields is being sued by the University of Oregon, according to a report from The Daily Emerald. Per court documents, the lawsuit is related to Fields’ departure from the program last winter.
According to The Daily Emerald’s report, court documents state Oregon and Fields agreed to a payment of $39,882 to be released from any liability related to an “underlying dispute.” According to the suit, Fields has paid $29,882.30, but the University of Oregon is seeking the remainder of the settlement payment in addition to costs associated from the suit.
“Pursuant to section 7 of the Contract, the University is entitled to reimbursement of its attorney fees, costs, and disbursements plus statutory interest of 9% from April 21, 2026, until paid,” the lawsuit reads.
Fields left the program during the season, and apparently didn’t offer an explanation for his departure at the time.
“He didn’t come to work today,” Lanning said on Nov. 5. “We haven’t talked to Dakoda. So, I guess that’s just the way it goes nowadays.”
Fields played in just three games for the Ducks in 2025, garnering 41 snaps, including a season-high 19 against Oklahoma State, according to Pro Football Focus. After the transfer portal opened, he committed to Oklahoma and joined the team for winter workouts and the spring semester. He’s not expected to be a starter for the Sooners, but he offers valuable depth for 2026 and beyond with four years of eligibility remaining.
