Virginia Tech landed a commitment on Monday when 3-star interior offensive lineman Kaden Buchanan picked the Hokies over the Kentucky Wildcats.
Buchanan is a 6-foot-4.5, 330-pound offensive lineman from Lebanon, Tennessee. According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Buchanan is rated as the No. 469 overall player nationally, the No. 28 interior offensive lineman in the class, and the No. 21 overall player in Tennessee.
Virginia Tech originally offered Buchanan in December and remained heavily involved throughout the recruiting process. Buchanan is also scheduled to take an official visit to Virginia Tech at the end of the week, while he still has a June 12 official visit scheduled with Kentucky if he chooses to continue taking visits.
Kentucky offered Buchanan in early February, shortly after Will Stein became the Wildcats’ head coach, and quickly pushed to become a major factor in the recruitment.
247 Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks described Buchanan as a physical offensive lineman with experience at tackle, guard, and center while highlighting his positional flexibility and long-term upside.
Brooks also noted Buchanan’s strong hands, power when pulling, and encouraging movement skills in pass protection situations. His defensive line experience and multi-sport background in volleyball and baseball have also helped separate him from other offensive line prospects in the class.
During the 2025 season, Buchanan played across the offensive line while also recording 18 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and one sack on defense.
Kentucky will now search elsewhere for more offensive line help in the class of 2027.
