On3 revives all-time Iowa football history in bowl projections

What’s one way to revive bowl games in a world that has turned into College Football Playoff or bust? Bring back some of the all-time classics!

That is what On3 is doing in their way-too-early bowl projections for the 2026 college football season with the Iowa Hawkeyes’ projected opponent.

On3 has the Hawkeyes going bowling once again, something Iowa has done every year since 2013, minus the COVID-19-impacted 2020 season, under head coach Kirk Ferentz. Their projects have the Iowa Hawkeyes lining up against the LSU Tigers in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

Iowa and LSU have played each other twice in history, both in bowl games. The most recent meeting came in the 2013 Outback Bowl in Tampa, which saw LSU win 21-14.

The other meeting, which is undoubtedly much more memorable for Iowa fans, happened to occur in Orlando in 2004, when Iowa won 30-25 on a 56-yard touchdown pass from Drew Tate to Warren Holloway as time expired to create on of the Hawkeyes’ greatest moments in program history.
