The Pittsburgh Penguins made their first two moves of the offseason.

Pittsburgh was eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Philadelphia Flyers in six games. After the playoff exit, the focus for the Penguins turned to the offseason and improving the roster.

Although the NHL Draft isn’t until June 26, and free agency doesn’t begin on July 1, the Penguins got some work done early. On Thursday, the Penguins announced they signed forward Connor Dewar and defenseman Ilya Solovyov to contract extensions.

Dewar was given a two-year contract extension that runs through the 2027-28 campaign and has an average annual value of $2.25 million. Solovyov, meanwhile, signed a one-year extension worth $850,000.

The Penguins acquired Dewar at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline from the Toronto Maple Leafs. This past season, which was his first full year in Pittsburgh, he had a career year as he recorded 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 76 games and proved to be an effective middle-six forward.

Soloyvov, meanwhile, played in 30 NHL games in 2025-26, split between the Colorado Avalanche and the Penguins. In 14 games with the Penguins, he recorded 5 assists and averaged 14:06 of ice time.

The Penguins still have several free agents, but Pittsburgh has over $61 million in cap space heading into the offseason.
