It’s a wonder this doesn’t happen more often, even with the precision of a pro.
During Friday’s Round 2 of the PGA Championship, Wyndham Clark launched a drive into the left rough of what appears to be the 11th hole.
Now, if you’ve ever been to a professional golf tournament, you know when a ball enters a fan area, said fans rarely want to move an inch. Instead, they stand their ground to get as close-up a view as they can of the next shot … which is how this happened:
Wyndham Clark almost caught a body at Aronimink.
Not his fault. You absolutely get what you deserve if that’s where you’re gonna stand for that shot pic.twitter.com/HFzZ85zfhf

The still shot shows just how perilous this could have been:
Patchy lie, side slope, Wyndham Clark … yeah, let me go ahead and stand riiiight over here, riiiight in front of the most volatile golfer on the PGA tour https://t.co/fxjEl0uLpPpic.twitter.com/h3Y9m6TlRo

Nope, not Wyndham Clark’s fault. And, as the great Steve Stone would say, this is a lesson for all you youngsters out there that even professional golfers miss every once in awhile.
Thankfully in this case the camera took the impact. Unfortunately for Clark, he’d go on to card a triple-bogey 7 and would ultimately miss the cut by one shot.
