Prep Roundup 5/29: Greenville moving on to state after D-III regional final win

Greenville softball got revenge in a rematch of last season’s regional final, this time defeating Western Brown 4-0 and earning a Division III state tournament bid in the process on Friday, May 29.

Lizzie Shaffer put Greenville on the board, scoring Leah Force with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Jordyn McMullen drilled a solo home run in the second and that ended up being more than enough of a lead for Greenville ace Ella Oswalt, who pitched her second shutout in as many days.

It will be the fifth state tournament appearance for coach Jerrod Newland at Greenville. Newland recorded his 600th career victory earlier this season.

The Wave will take a 31-game win streak into a state semifinal matchup with Bloom-Carroll on Friday, June 5 at Firestone Stadium in Akron.
