Following their Super Bowl 60 win, the Seattle Seahawks‘ offseason was interesting. They lost Kenneth Walker III, their Super Bowl MVP, along with Riq Woolen, Boye Mafe, and Coby Bryant in free agency.
They brought back Rashid Shaheed and Josh Jobe, signed Emmanuel Wilson, and added Jadarian Price and Bud Clark, among others, during the NFL Draft. It was a solid haul for the Seahawks, especially in the aftermath of losing some key players in free agency.
However, there was one decision that ESPN’s Bill Barnwell called out as John Schneider’s “worst” decision of the offseason. But, this decision wasn’t actually that bad a mistake, as it doesn’t make much sense to call this the Seahawks’ “worst” decision.
Seahawks ‘worst’ roster decision wasn’t that bad
“Worst: Not doing more to upgrade the offensive line,” Barnwell writes. “… With the defense taking hits in free agency and Kenneth Walker leaving for the Chiefs, though, I would have liked general manager John Schneider to put a little more into building the line.”
This offseason, the Seahawks only made one addition to the offensive line, which was drafting Iowa guard Beau Stephens in the fifth-round. He’s not a bad depth addition by any means.
Anthony Bradford had some issues last season, but even if he’s the weakest link on the offensive line, the tackle spots are fine with Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas, while Jalen Sundell and Grey Zabel are solid starters at their respective positions.

Sure, the depth chart after the five starters isn’t ideal, with Josh Jones, Stephens, Olu Oluwatimi, Christian Hayes, Amari Knight, and others rounding out the room.
But, compared to other contenders around the league, calling out the Seahawks’ lack of additions as the worst roster decision made this offseason is a bit nitpicky.
Arguably, their worst decision this offseason was how they treated the running back room after losing Walker. They over-drafted Price in the first round, and didn’t add a decent option like a Kenneth Gainwell or Rico Dowdle in free agency.
It wasn’t a bad offseason by any means for the Seahawks, and their offensive line roster moves being called their “worst” decision by Barnwell doesn’t make much sense.
