Slavia Praha vs Sparta Prague derby abandoned after home fans storm pitch and attack rival goalkeeper

The derby between Slavia Prague and Sparta Prague was called off after hundreds of home supporters stormed the pitch in the closing minutes at the Fortuna Stadium.

Slavia entered the home fixture knowing victory would secure the league title for them.

They were leading 3-2 with minutes remaining in the contest. But that’s when the game descended into utter chaos.

Hundreds of Slavia supporters stormed the pitch after breaching security barriers in crazy scenes inside the stadium.

Many carried lit flares and threw them on the field. Some went to the away section and rained pyrotechnics towards their rival fans.

Amidst all this chaos, the players of the two teams were seen desperately scrambling towards the tunnel to run to safety.

Sparta goalkeeper Jakub Surovcik was struck by a flare, and he later took to social media to slam the shocking behaviour of the home supporters.

The referee initially suspended the game, but soon was forced to call off for good.

The away side left the stadium shortly afterwards on the team bus, and the Czech police ultimately restored order.

Slavia and Sparta are two of the most successful clubs in the Czech Republic. The two sides also share the most prominent rivalry in Czech football.

Slavia won the Czech First League title last season. The Red and Whites are on course to defend their league crown as they boast a healthy lead at the top of the table.
